The Bioheat® Spotlight is on Wilcox Energy
Wilcox Energy
Your comfort is our concern. Since 1955.
Since 1955 Wilcox Fuel has been delivering heating oil to local residences located in Westbrook and its surrounding towns. Wilcox began as a bicycle shop in 1868 by H.T. Wilcox. In 1901 the shop evolved to become the 1st Mobil outlet in New England. 54 Years later Dick and Don Wilcox started the Wilcox Fuel Company, delivering oil to their customers in 50-gallon drums. In 1990 the Wilcox brothers sold the company to John McCall and David Foster, the current owners, who have renamed it Wilcox Energy to address their expanded home energy products and services.

Wilcox currently provides home heating and cooling services to nearly 4,000 homes using oil, biofuel and propane. They offer complete home heating and cooling services including design, installation, maintenance and routine servicing including the delivery of home heating oil, biofuel, propane, kerosene and diesel fuel (on-road & off road). They also support hybrid systems.
Wilcox Energy is built upon the promise of offering quality reliable service, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They are dedicated to providing their customers with the highest quality heating and cooling products and services at the best price possible. Their operations support those commitments.
Owners, John and David pride themselves on being “local.” Foster says, “We live here, raise our kids here and are proud to give back to our community in many ways. Our service technicians live in our service territory also, so they can respond quickly during our customer’s greatest time of need, in the middle of the night! ‘Local’ to us means if you have a problem or a concern, you can always pick up the phone or drop by our office and speak to someone who can help you with whatever you need.”
Wilcox Energy’s Vice President, John McCall, adds, “At Wilcox Energy, we are neighbors serving neighbors, and feel that it is our obligation to give back to the community that has allowed us to serve them for over five decades. We support a list of over 24 local organizations that contribute to making our community what it is today.”
McCall is the distribution strategist and has worked in the oil industry for 26 years. He works closely with a broker to hedge his buying to attain the best oil price and protection plans around–an increasingly imperative role in the current volatile markets.
When oil prices do drop, McCall is positioned to take advantage by storing reserves in their own 430,000-gallon private oil facility. In 1968 Wilcox invested in their first oil storage tank with a capacity of 150,000 gallons, and during the oil embargo of the 70’s, they added a 250,000-gallon oil tank. Wilcox believes having immediate access to their fuel has set them apart in the marketplace for years.
Wilcox Energy’s President, David Foster, began in sales at Wilcox Fuel, earned his B2 heating license and then became Wilcox’s Service Manager. Today, as president, David’s commitment extends beyond the company and their community. He works diligently to support legislature, at both the national and state levels in support of the oil heat industry’s Futures Market Reform and Heating Efficiency Tax Credits.
Since 1994 David has continuously served on the Board of Directors for the ICPA (Independent CT Petroleum Association) and also the New England Fuel Institute (NEFI). David has been named the youngest person to receive the prestigious Oil Man of the Year award, as well as attaining the role of President of the ICPA. In 2009 he became the chairman of the Heating Oil Committee of the Petroleum Marketers Association of America (PMAA).
